The 2nd Annual New York Round TableTM Writers' Conference
The Small Press Center is pleased to announce that it is hosting the Second Annual New York Round TableTM Writers' Conference in spring 2006. The event will be held at the historic General Society of Mechanics and Tradesmen Library in Midtown Manhattan on Friday and Saturday, April 28-29, 2006.

This year, our panels and discussions will again feature a wide-ranging and impressive list of authors, journalists, publicists, editors, literary agents, and other publishing professionals. Click here to read more.

Attracting writers of all levels from beginner to seasoned professional, the New York Round TableTM Writers' Conference provides access to the nation's leading literary figures, including editors, agents, publicists, reviewers, bestselling authors and publishers, speaking on the business and career of writing. The conference is in a unique position, being located in New York, the literary capital of the United States, to bring publishing professionals together to discuss the promises and pitfalls of the writing life.

Planning for this year's conference is proceeding rapidly. Programming for 2006 will include best-selling keynote speakers, gala Saturday evening dinner, performance by the Bowery Poetry Club, two cocktail receptions and two lunches and panel discussions on the following topics:

  • PR and Marketing
  • Independent Publishers

Organizations confirmed to take part so far include Time Magazine, The Smoking Gun.com, New York Daily News, Village Voice, National Writers Union, Slate.com, Mediabistro.com, Black Issues Book Review, Budget Living, Fence, Rattapallax Press, New Partisan.com and the Pace University MS in Publishing Program.

Expanding upon last year's extremely successful agent and editor panels, the conference will feature two literary agent panels divided into nonfiction and fiction agents and two book editor panels divided into nonfiction and fiction editors.

New this year will be one-on-one meetings with literary agents. To participate you must submit a ten-page sample of your work and an additional $50 fee by April 17, 2006. Click here for additional details.

Last year's highly successful inaugural conference featured a diverse lineup of panelists from all corners of the industry, including authors and journalists, representatives from publishing houses of all types and sizes, writers' organizations and the media.
